Ideal Playing XI for India-

Openers-

With no doubt Rohit & Shikhar will lead their way out as the preferred openers for the side as they have a very good record in both ODI’s & ICC Tournaments. If we talk about the previous World Cup Rohit & Shikhar played a big role in India’s success as they scored 330 & 412 runs in 8 matches respectively with 1& 2 Centuries each at a strike rate of 91.67 & 91.76. While Shikhar Dhawan has scored highest runs among all players in ICC Tournaments since 2013 i.e. a total of 968 runs at an average of over 69.

Middle-Order-

This is a area which India should be concerned about at the moment as they still need to find a suitable no.4 but we will talk about that later as the no.3 comes before i.e. Virat Kohli the Captain of the team will take his own spot i.e. no.3. Taking a look into his 2015 World Cup records he has scored a total of 305 runs in 8 matches with a century & at a strike rate of 81.55. The man with 41 ODI Tons will be the key for India’s success in the multi-nation tournament.

If we take all the conditions & scenarios into play then we might see Vijay Shankar at no.4, though he is yet to make a big score but so far has impressed everyone with his technique & batting ability, he has scored a total of 149 runs in 4 innings with a highest of 46. Also, he can bowl a bit of Right Arm Medium Pace but he needs to improve a lot on bowling front. If he plays then this will be his first World Cup.

No.5 is reserved for MS.Dhoni who has been in good form, right from the start of 2019 & has scored 327 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 78.33. He has also scored a total of 237 runs in 2015 World Cup (he played at no.6 or no.7 in the tournament). His recent performance & smart wicket-keeping plus tons of experience will be handy for India in the World Cup.

Kedar Jadhav is slated to slot in at no.6 due to his All-Round abilities & is intended to play the finishers role & can come good with his low trajectory bowling any time when needed. In total he has scored 246 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate 91.44 and has taken 5 wickets in 2019.

All-Rounder-

With no doubt Hardik Pandya will play at this spot as his skills as compared to Shankar in terms of bowling are more sound. Though he has not featured much in 2019 but is expected to be a key player for India with his superb fielding, effortless batting & above average bowling. This will be his first World Cup but he has taken 4 wickets in 2017 Champions Trophy & has hit 3 back-to-back sixes against Imad Wasim in the first match.

Spinners-

The spin twins i.e. Kuldeep & Chahal with no if & but will feature in the XI together & will occupy slot no.8 & no.9 respectively. Though they are yet to play a major ICC Tournament but they have good amount of experience & they are recently in good form with Kuldeep taking 19 wickets & Chahal taking 16 wickets so far in 2019.

Pacers-

India’s second highest wicket-taker of 2015 World Cup i.e. Mohammed Shami is likely to slot in at no.10. His recent performance has been very good & he has taken a total of 17 wickets in 10 ODI’s in 2019. While in 2015 World Cup he took 17 wickets at an average of 17.29.

With no second thought Jasprit Bumrah is set to reprise his role as India’s frontline pacer. Though this will be his first World Cup but has taken 4 wickets in 2017 Champions Trophy & has taken 7 wickets in 4 matches of 2019.
