Today, the South African Pacer Lungisani Ngidi who was suppose to be one of the most critical player for CSK in the upcoming IPL 2019 starting from 23rd March has been ruled out due to side strain which he picked up during the 5th ODI Srilanka which also kept him out of the 1st T20I against the same opponent.

Meanwhile, the South African Team Manager quoted, Dr Mohammed Moosajee said,” Lungi felt discomfort while bowling during the last ODI against Sri Lanka at Newlands and immediately stopped bowling. Further scans revealed a Grade II muscle strain which will need up to four weeks of rest followed by a rehab programme leading up to the World Cup.”

CSK has likes of David Willey as the overseas pace options with Mohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, KM Asif & Monu Singh as Indian Pace options.
With the injury coming at a short notice, the two ample replacements for injured Ngidi are:
- Lewis Gregory:
The 26 year old Bowling All-Rounder hails from England & plays for Somerset County, has a far decent record under his belt with 75 wickets in 79 T20 games at an average of 27.88 with three 4-fers to his name with a economy of 8.96 and bowls well over 140 Kmph and can come good with bat when needed. He can be a like-to like replacement for injured Ngidi.
2. Jamie Overton:
The 24 year old, tall & lanky pacer also hails from England and plays for Somerset. So, far in his small career he has played 44 T20s and has taken 56 wickets with two 4-fers & one 5-fer to his name at an economy of 9.36 & averages above 24. He also bowls over 140 Kmph which is another like-to-like replacement for Ngidi.
Another reason for their inclusion might be the face that they are not in England’s schemes of World Cup which means they will play complete season.
